Ok, this is it. This procedure is meant to be run only when there is an upgrade from one version to another. It is not intended to be used for regular backup/restore operations. During an update between versions, there may be a new versions of mail templates and this is included in the upgrade. It is true that if there has been local changes in templates, they could be overwritten. If there are some local modifications, we suggested to keeping a diff of those local modification in some sql update and apply this diff at the end of upgrade procedure. Hello, Jaromir, Paul, and all: For what is worth. Here at NIC-CR, we've had this problem. We have held FRED at 2.32, for not having problems with our production platform. In some months we will migrate FRED to the newest version, I think. At 2.32 when doing a periodic pg_dump backup, it backups everything....except the object_registry table.. FOr correcting this we use a PostgreSQL COPY of that table. Now, at new versions, that we have tested (last one I tested is 2.443 or so), after doing this and migrating the database to the new version format, the backup is completely clean. You can restore the database without problem. Also, I had problems with such that tables with a previos version. Perhaps I can help Paul. I think they are prettry static tables, right, Jaromir?. Mario, Thank you for this observation, it is worth it, at least it shows that we are not alone with this problem. You can proceed to send me, privately, the solution that you are using. Please note that I am not a database expert, so, please give examples that I can use, such as COPY with overwrite contents of a table like mail_template. I also hope this will get fixed soon in FRED.. Thanks for the clarification, the dump and restore is indeed being done from one FRED version to a different FRED version. We look forward to the major refactoring on handling notifications in FRED because this is a major or critical section of running a sustainable domain registry So, for now, I guess the only option for us is to do a mail_template data only dump and restore as I suggested earlier for the mail_template table, confirm ? I guess there were some changes over the time that added/remove columns to tables and than restore for data only dump from table with different structure will fail. If this is the case, you will need to copy only template column from mail_template from old to new version. You can let us now some more details out of mailing list so we can look at it.
