Registry Web Interface

by Julian De Marchi

Hey, This is a general question; I was curious if anyone has a generic website that interfaces into FRED, that allows for people to register domains and update their details. -- Cheers, Julian De Marchi -- OpenNIC user - http://www.opennicproject.org/ | http://www.opennic.glue Support OpenNIC, become a member today! -- PGP 0x8D659814 -- Please avoid sending me Word or PowerPoint attachments. delete one Domain only from nameserver

by Petur Kirke

How do i delete one Domain ONLY from DNS ? I cannot find any command for this in fred-client. Is there a (python?) command for this ? I need to do this, because when one Domain expires, we first want to delete it only from DNS, and the later delete the domain completely from the system. regards Petur This email and its attachments may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed. object_regular_procedure

by Petur Kirke

Hello again Finally i decided, what i want to do. I only want to use these 2 commands, which "object_regular_procedure" is a shortcut for: fred-admin --update_object_states fred-admin --object_delete_candidates I can see 2 ways to do this, and i want to ask you to help me choosing the correct way to do this: 1) to run "object_regular_procedure" without running the unwanted commands, but only the 2 that i want to run. Is that possible, and if yes, how ? 2) if i run the 2 commands individually, how should the order be ? (for example update_object_states should be runned 2 times ?, is that before and after the other command/s ?) regards Petur ________________________________________ Fra: fred-users-bounces(a)lists.nic.cz [fred-users-bounces(a)lists.nic.cz] På vegne af Jaromír Talíř [jaromir.talir(a)nic.cz] Sendt: 13. februar 2009 14:28 Til: fred-users(a)lists.nic.cz Emne: Re: SV: sending emails to customers This procedure is imporant part of Fred processes. It automates lot of things. According to fred-admin --help it's just shortcut for list of other things: --object_regular_procedure shortcut for 2x update_object_states, notify_state changes, poll_create_statechanges , object_delete_candidates, poll_create_low_credit, notify_letters_create --update_object_states - This command update state of objects - it compares actual time, expiration dates on domains, last usage dates on contact and nssets and mark those object with flags like (expired, ouzone, deleteCandidate...). It's called twice to catch race condition - if somebody should renew domain during this procedure. It's state is reverted back in second run. Domains with 'outzone' state are not generation into zone dile --notify_state_changes - Go through objects and find states that should be followed by client notification. For those object/state combinations send email to object owner. For example registrants are this way notified about approaching expiration, about getting outzone, about deleting of object...etc --poll_create_statechanges - Similar to previous but this way registrars are informed using 'poll messages' mechanism. New message is created in system and registrars can download this message using poll EPP command. --object_delete_candidates - All objects marked by state deleteCandidate are deleted. Domains get this state 45 days after expiration date. Contact and NSSets get this state after six months of not using them. --poll_create_low_credit - Special check for credit of registrars. If credit of registrar fall under some configured limit. New poll message is created for this registrar with information that credit is low. --notify_letters_create - Few weeks before deleteing of domain we send regular paper letter to registrant with information that his domain is really going to be deleted. This procedure generates PDF document with those letters. Our staff download this PDF file using web administration interface, print it on printer, put it into envelopes and send it. We call this procedure each day at 2pm from cron script. Fred

by Mark Gregory

Hi, We would like to run an ENUM registry for several companies to use to provide lookups for their customers. The registry would store the service provider gateway addresses. I would like to ask a couple of questions. We have been introduced to the Austrian ENUM server software, but it appears to be very hard to install and does not support ubuntu server. Does FRED do the same things as the Austrian software? We found during a test that Cisco devices do not support the latest ENUM RFC and we had to use an ENUM proxy to translate back to the old RFC. Does FRED overcome this issue with Cisco gateway ENUM lookups? We want to use a private domain for the registrations: domain.com Does Fred permit the use of a private domain tree or must we use e164.arpa? Regards mark

Ways of generating different files for subzones.

by Mario Guerra

We would like to separate files for different subzones. Two possible strategies: 1. Some option from genzone_client using an only zone. 2. Defining zones in FRED .cr, .ac.cr, .co.cr and the like (notice the second-level zone). Any thoughts?. Best regards.

Jaunty and FRED

by Mario Guerra

FRED installation using Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) is very similar to an 8.04 installation. There was one problem, though, with tinyerp-server, it fails. I apparently solved that with this trick: cp /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/oldxml/_xmlplus/utils/boolean.so /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/_xmlplus/utils/ So it seems that everything is OK now. BTW, I guess that future versions will use OpenERP which is TinyERP succesor..... Best regards.

FRED on UBUNTU server 8.04

by Khalifa Niang

Hello sir I very much sorry You wrote to me : "Sorry, but I don't understand what configure script you are trying to call. If you will install omniorb normal way (apt-get install omniidl4 omniidl4-python libomniorb4-dev libomnithread3-dev', you should not have aby such problems." I've install all mentioned on M GUERRA before install FRED. Do you remember when I had problem with fred-pyfred (witch not started) on DEBIAN and when I used fred-manager for install. I had solved this with installing omniORBpy and fred-pyfred started. So I think that I can solve this same problem on Ubuntu with omniORBpy installation. Only fred-pyfred server don't start on UBUNTU. On DEBIAN I have to delete FRED database for restarting servers otherwise it stop on PostgreSQL interface.

FRED in Jaunty

by Mario Guerra

I configured the latest FRED for the upcoming Ubuntu 9.04. Basically the same than FRED for Hardy. One strange thing, though. tinyerp-server does not install well. Not a FRED problem, but a packaging or so problem when generating the corresponding .deb. I filed a Launchpad bug and got the former tinyerp-server (for Hardy). I documented the process. I'm sending the translated version to Jaromír in these days. Saludos.

FRED servers

by Khalifa Niang

hello when I try to start FRED servers, they don't and when I try: $/root/bin/fred-pyfred start Importing modules ['mailer', 'techcheck', 'filemanager', 'genzone'] Could not import module: cannot import name ccReg Is this the reason that servers don't start? How to solve this ? And when I'm in /share/idl/fred and do ls command I have : _Admin.idl ccReg.idl EPP.idl Filters.idl _Registry.idl _Whois.idl ZoneGenerator.idl Admin.idl _dataTypes.idl _FileManager.idl _Mailer.idl _TechCheck.idl Whois.idl _zone.idl _EPP.idl FileManager.idl Mailer.idl TechCheck.idl _ZoneGenerator.idl but not _ccReg.idl like EPP.idl _EPP.idl; Admin.idl _Admin.idl ...etc

FRED SERVERS

by Khalifa Niang

Hello sir I have read in the FRED archives for starting FRED servers I have to type the command: nic@nicGest:~$ /etc/init.d/fred-server start Starting FRED central registry CORBA servers.... And after I verify if servers were started : nic@nicGest:~$ /etc/init.d/fred-server status fred-pyfred is stopped fred-rifd is stopped fred-pifd is stopped fred-adifd is stopped I don't know why servers don't start ? Then I thing that this is the reason of connection errors when I type command to start fred-client : nic@nicGest:~/ etc/fred/fred-client.conf Connecting to localhost, port 22351 ... ERROR: I cannot connect to the server localhost. Connection socket.error: (111, 'Connection refused') (localhost:22351) How to start the FRED servers ? How to solve connection errors ?

Installing FRED??

by Adriatik Allamani

Hi All, I am trying to implement FRED as test in a Ubuntu Server, but I am having many problems. I am following the instructions as described in the link below: http://fred.nic.cz/wiki/howto After installing fred server I am trying to install fred-server python component but I get the following errors: user@nsx:~/fred/fred-pyfred-2.1.2$ python setup.py build_idl usage: setup.py [global_opts] cmd1 [cmd1_opts] [cmd2 [cmd2_opts] ...] or: setup.py --help [cmd1 cmd2 ...] or: setup.py --help-commands or: setup.py cmd --help error: invalid command 'build_idl' user@nsx:~/fred/fred-pyfred-2.1.2$ My first question is for the instructions in the link above, they seems to be old (fred 1.6.2 - I have downloaded fred 2.1.2). In the last step: Create initial configuration # mkdir /etc/fred # cp server.conf.example /etc/fred/server.conf I couldn't find any server.conf.example just server.conf and server.conf.in??? Is there any updated instructions and can I have them so I can try again step by step the implementation. or is there any mistake made by me during the implementations step till this point, which gives me this errors?? Another thing: when installing fred server it didn't work the command: ./configure --prefix=/usr && make because could not find the idl so I used the command: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-idldir=/usr/share/idl/fred/idl && make because the idl dir was not /usr/share/idl/fred but /usr/share/idl/fred/idl can I have some instructions for implementations of fred-2.1.2 please because to me those instructions looks old?? Thanks Adriatik

Problem with fred-client and FreeBSD 7.1 solved

by Mario Guerra

When setting up fred-client the usual procedure for installing it works as expected. But when calling it it gives this error: ERROR: getaddrinfo() socket.error [9] servname not supported for ai_socktype The solution is to modify fred-client.conf so the socket type is forced, as shown here ;; Force socket type. Valid value is: IPv4 or IPv6. ;; Default is to use server's socket type. ;socket = IPv6 socket = IPv4 Mario

FRED EPP implementation

by Mario Guerra

I've noticed that the nssets and keysets are extensions to the regular EPP descriptions in the RFCs. I have a question: would those extensions be a problem if a registrar expects the hosts and domains based on that?. I ask this because the client development the NIC-CR (Costa Rica) made was based on the hosts and domains transactions described in the RFCs. Best regards.

Fred on Gentoo

by Mark J Elkins

I'm attempting to install FRED onto a Gentoo box. I'm using fred-manager to do the grunt work. I've started with a reasonably minimal install box (no X, etc) and so far - added: emerge -uv omniORB boost libdaemon postgresql bind bind-tools doxygen pyorbit tinyerp-server freefont-ttf I'm installing 'fred' into "/home/fred' - as user 'fred'. Near the top - I get:- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [much deleted] Generating python stubs from IDL files omniidl -Cbuild/stubs -bpython -Wbinline -Wbpackage=pyfred.idlstubs /home/fred/root/share/idl/fred/FileManager.idl /home/fred/root/share/idl/fred/Mailer.idl /home/fred/root/share/idl/fred/TechCheck.idl /home/fred/root/share/idl/fred/ZoneGenerator.idl omniidl: Could not import back-end 'python' omniidl: Maybe you need to use the -p option? omniidl: (The error was 'No module named python') error: Return status of omniidl is 256 /home/fred/download/src/fred-doc2pdf-2.0.0/setup.cfg.template has been copied to setup.cfg. What am I still missing? Python is installed - version 2.5.2 Is this error a problem? - I'm worried about "No module named python" ---------------- then... At the end of my output - I get:- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 'doc/html/tab_b.gif' '/home/fred/root/share/doc/fred-mod-eppd/tab_b.gif' /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 'doc/html/tab_l.gif' '/home/fred/root/share/doc/fred-mod-eppd/tab_l.gif' /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 'doc/html/tab_r.gif' '/home/fred/root/share/doc/fred-mod-eppd/tab_r.gif' /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 'doc/html/tabs.css' '/home/fred/root/share/doc/fred-mod-eppd/tabs.css' make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/fred/build/fred-mod-eppd' make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/fred/build/fred-mod-eppd' /home/fred/download/src/fred-webadmin-3.1.1/setup.cfg.template has been copied to setup.cfg. Updating setup configuration file (setup.cfg). running install ImportError: No module named simplejson fred-webadmin needs simplejson module. Checking dependencies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Again - is this the natural end of the compilation? What is the "simplejson" module? ** Just found an installable package by that name ** Trying to start everything - I get:- $ ./fred-manager start ERROR: Starting PostgreSQL SUCCESS: Starting omniNames... SUCCESS: Starting FRED central registry CORBA servers... ERROR: Starting Apache... ./fred-manager: line 716: /home/fred/root/etc/init.d/fred-webadmin-server: No such file or directory ./fred-manager: line 11: /home/fred/root/etc/init.d/local_named: No such file or directory ERROR: Starting local named cannot chdir(/var/spool/cron), bailing out. /var/spool/cron: Permission denied cannot chdir(/var/spool/cron), bailing out. /var/spool/cron: Permission denied cannot chdir(/var/spool/cron), bailing out. /var/spool/cron: Permission denied My concerns here are - why would I even expect a non-root user to be able to start PostgreSQL?? - (which was already running) There seems to be an ugly mix between 'system' jobs and 'user' jobs? The same goes for Apache - only system users (or root) should be able to start (and stop) system processes. Same for the contents of /var/spool/cron. Should I actually copy all of "home/fred/root" to my machines "/" ??? lastly - the suggestion of just adding four packages (as well as generic tools) does seem misleading. Now the 'install' ends with:- ----------------------------------- Updating setup configuration file (setup.cfg). running install ImportError: No module named omniORB fred-webadmin needs omniORB module. technical_test

by Petur Kirke

In .fo we demand from our users, that DNS (nameservers) shall be working, before they can apply for a domain. Because of this, we do a check at the time, when the users is applying for the domain on our website. The check-script is checking, if the domain, which the user applies for, are registered on the nameservers, which he specifies as nameservers for this domain. Can i use the fred-client command "technical_test" for this purpose ? Or does this command have another purpose ? And if yes, then which level should i be using ? Contributing to FRED

by Mario Guerra

I would be more than happy contributing to FRED in these ways: 1. Making a tutorial for installing (from scratch) it and configuring it correctly, then creating a base domain (like "cr"), creating contacts, nssets, etc. and generating the corresponding BIND files. Afterwards using the administrative tasks, etc. 2. Translating BIND to Spanish. When I end the test configuration I think I can start with this (I've documented the installation and configuration process). Best regards

fred-client usage

by Mario Guerra

Hello. We are starting to test FRED in earnest. By using fred-client we have suucessfully created both contacts and nssets. When trying to create .cz domains the result is satisfactory, but not with .cr (Costa Rica) domains. Notice that we inserted a record in the "zones" table and another in the "zones_ns" table. Here is what happens: -------------------------------- REG-FRED_A@localhost> create_domain cwatson.cr NIC:020 NULL NICNS:020 NULL (3 y) Do you really want to send this command to the server? (y/N): y ERROR: Server returned an empty message. Ending session at localhost Disconnected. Try to automaticly reconnect - send login. Connecting to localhost, port 700 ... Connected! ERROR: Authentication error ---------------------------------- If the domain were, say, cwatson.cz it is created with no problems. I'm sure I'm omitting something. Thanks in advance. switch fred-client commands with sql-queries ?

by Petur Kirke

I am developing a client interface against FRED. So far everythings fine. Now i need to make it possible for customers to search for Contacts and other things, and it seems like, if i use the fred-client command, things go to slow. For example when i need to search for Names of Contacts, i first need to do "list_contacts", and then go through every CONTACT, and check for the name. If i use an sql-query i can search directly on the NAME. So, the way to do this, is by SQL query directly against the PostgreSQL database ? It will not interfere with anything else ? What will you recommend ? regards Petur This email and its attachments may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed. delete test data from postgre sql

by Petur Kirke

As i am programming and testing, i have filled up the PostgreSQL database of FRED with testdata. nssets and nameservers

by Petur Kirke

In our current system in Faroe Islands, we dont use nssets. For each domain name there are 2 nameservers. So we only have one domain name table, and one nameserver table. In FRED i think it is impossible to connect a nameserver directly to one domain ? I can only connect a nsset to one domain, right ? Which means i have to go through all our nameservers, and put them into nssets, right ? Billing Contacts

by Petur Kirke

In Faroe Islands we do NOT use registrars. The customers apply for domain names directly on the cctldM's homepage. For each domain we have 3 kinds of contacts: Administrative Contact (Holder of Domain) Nameserver Contact (Zone Contact) Billing Contact (where to send the bill) I am trying to use as much as possible of FRED, and build as little as possible myself. So i was thinking about, if i could maintain our "Billing Contacts" in the same way as "Registrars" are maintained in the FRED system ? I asked something a bit similar before, and I think that you will not recommend this, but i just want to hear your opinion again, so i can understand it as good as possible. Is it to difficult with all the usernames and passwords ? (technical) And are there other things, where there is a difference between "registrars" and our "Billing contacts" ? (data in database?) Disable domain ?

by Petur Kirke

In Faroe Islands we have 2 kinds of domain applications named A applications and B applications. When the customer makes an A application, the domain is created immediately. When the customer makes a B application, the domain will be created 1 month after the application is done. Fred dramas

Hey Guys, I have got FRED operating today. However, when I use fred-client and try and create_contacts I get command failed. Below is the output; wogg_85(a)192.168.0.19> create_contact CID:ID02 'Jan Ban' info(a)mail.com Street Brno 123000 CZ Do you really want to send this command to the server? Also the script to load the first zone did not work. This is becuase the FRED binary is not around, I assume the replacement is fred-admin, but unsure how it would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Let me know if you need any more info. Regards, Julian

fred-client commands dependency

by Petur Kirke

Im thinking about, in which order i have to do the fred-client commands. For example, when i want to run the create_domain command, i think under normal circumstances i first need to run the create_contact command. And do i need to run check_domain before i run a create_domain command, or does the system check this automatically ? And when i run delete_domain, does the system check, if i first have to delete one contact, which is only used in this domain ? Is there any documentation on this subject ? where to store users and logs

by Petur Kirke

I have started to design the PHP Registrar Web Interface. Just want to ask one simple question, i think i know the answer, but want to be sure: In our system we want to have different users, for example: Administrator Office employee And also every person who creates one domain, is a user, who will get a username and password. Should we register these users and logs for these users action in our PHP Registrar Web Interface program, or is it possible to register it in the FRED database ? What would you recommend ? regards Petur ________________________________ This email and its attachments may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed. idn and logs

2 more questions: 1) Does FRED support IDN, and how can i import the special characters for .fo to FRED ? 2) Does the FRED logs save every action, that one user does, so its possible to trace back who did what ? installed fred !! httpd conf??- Re: rxd - Re:: Support

by Dr Paulos Nyirenda

Hello, I have now installed FRED using yum on fedora 8, went smoothly, but now I am getting httpd errors. I have gone through most of the configuration but I have a problem confguring httpd/apache. Apache breaks when I put the mod_eppd.so module in the conf, I start getting the error: > Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:700 > no listening sockets available, shutting down > Unable to open logs How do I configure httpd for fred? I also need pointers on how to generate the certificates for epp. Thanks in advance. Registrar Web interface

by Petur Kirke

Let me present myself or us. We are the cctld Manager for the .fo domain (Faroe Islands), and we are seriously considering using FRED to manage our domains. We have now succesfully installed FRED. We installed the OS: Fedora 9, and the Fred binary package for Fedora 9. Then we followed the documentation HOWTO, and in the end everything is working succesfully, even if the HOWTO wasnt made for Fedora 9. :) We now have an Admin Web Interface and a Public Web Interface (whois). But it seems like, there is no WEB interface for the Registrar Interface (client). And in the documentation it says: FRED provides ... a GUI client (currently at experimental stage only) ... So our next question is: At this time (october 2008), does Fred have any WEB interface, where end users can create (or apply for) domains ? Because in our country we dont use Registrars, we really need one WEB interface for this. How would you recommend us to solve this task ? what about .fo

Integration of client into PHP, client_example.php

by Petur Kirke

In FRED homepage, under Documentation, Fred_client readme (README_EN.txt), it says: ---------- Chapter 6. Integration of client into the PHP code CAUTION ! The PHP support extension is in a development and testing phase in this version of the client. The final solution may differ. The client also contains a sample PHP script, which demonstrates how to integrate the client into a PHP solution: doc/client_example.php. It is necessary to correctly set the route to client: $exec_path (unless the client was installed using the standard procedure). The $php_module_name variable sets redirection to file and $command_options enable addition of other parameters when necessary. ---------- But i cannot find the file client_example.php on my server ! Does anyone know why ? Can someone send me this file ? This email and its attachments may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed. Support

by Eddy Kayihura M.

Hi, I have installed Fred with yum install fred-* on a Fedora 8 and everything seems to have worked correctly. However, I am a bit stuck with the documentation as to what to do exactly from there since the docs seems to be using an install on Ubuntu. Can you please give me some direction from here? -- Kind regards, Eddy

installing FRED on Fedora 9

by Petur Kirke

I have installed Fedora 9 on a machine, and then i installed the FRED binary package for Fedora 9 like this: yum install fred-* This installation worked very fine. But where to go from here ? I looked at the Fred website, under "documentation", and "FRED Howto", but it looks like this dokumentation assumes that we use Debian. Where can i see what to do after installing the FRED binary package for Fedora 9 ? getaddrinfo() socket.error [-8] Servname not supported for ai_socktype

by Dale Stirling

Hi I am looking at using the fred-client to communicate zia EPP with Ausregistry the AU registrar. I am able to get the client to run so I am assuming that my config is ok and SSL ket files are correct. Though when I connect and try to do a simple hello statement I get this error: registry:/var/www/fred# python2.4 ./fred-client --config ./conf/fred-client.conf FredClient 1.6.1 Type "help", "license" or "credits" for more information. What else would cause this error. I was getting an error about EOF but downloaded the latest version of the fred-client and now I am getting this error. I am now using version 1.6.1. Also my config is as bellow, please note that I have used both the the hostname and the IP address of the server in the host config value.
