Hey,
I was wondering if any work has been done on a statistics module for Knot DNS? I have read
the mailing list and saw the conversation between Daniel and Julian, but haven’t seen
anything on the list since then and I don’t see anything the documentation.

Hi Roger,
we have some preliminary work done on this topic. It's definitely not finished and
will take more time as we're still in the design phase. We've also been discussing
what data to collect, how to output them and how to configure the module or subsystem.
We are cosidering the Bind's approach. How much preferable for you it would be if
we'd copied Bind's statistics format? How about NSD's? How about JSON? Please
bear in mind not all statistics make sense to collect and there are already tools that you
can use to sample some traffic (see http://www.statdns.com/resources/).

Off the top of my head I would say any parseable format would be fine for our purposes of
having an idea of how much traffic and the type of traffic the nameserver is handling.
Today almost everything we use is in bind style stats (success,referral, nxrrset,
nxdomain, recursion, failure, duplicate, dropped)and that is what we are used to seeing.
I have never really reflected over what I would “want” to see, If I come with anything I
will get back in touch.
