When i set disclose n, while creating contact, some information is
hidden in Public Whois, but other registrars can still see all the fields
via info_contact, can i somehow limit info_contact to only same
registrar data or hide fields like in public whois?

Trying to compile fred on debian lenny I receive the following error;

The only thing that stands out is the python version. What is
interesting however is fred-pyfred-2.1.5 compiles fine.
I tried to search for this "drill" error with no luck.

Does this give current credit balance for current use ?
How can i credit one user/registrar manualy not from bank, is there
command for that or i can do it directly from db

Hello!
I installed FRED and most of it is working now. There was a minor glitch
in itertable.py script (__init__(self) function not taking arguments
error) that prevented launching the webadmin. I don't know if this is
just me or has anybody else seen this as well.
What I wanted to ask was whether there exists an updated version of the
wbadmin. The distributed one (3.1.4) seems to lack some log and all of
the statistics modules. Also, one would have expected to have sections
for entering zones, zonegen and invoices. The latter are part of my wish
list.
This is a great piece of software!

But now i have a problem, when i check a certain provider of nameservers.
Normally when technical_test responds negative, i get an answer something like this:

Before I begin an installation was curious if anyone has experience running
FRED on ubuntu 9.10 (karmic), I noticed the FRED distribution available is
for dapper. Also does it run on both i386 and 64bit OS?

I have encountered a problem in Billing where by I have created a domain
under or.tz and since the zone had less than 100,000.But just after the
creation of the domain I ended Up having 42929672.96.
Have anyone encountered such an error?
How do I make sure it doesn't occur again?

We are having a small problem,I Tanzania we have sld's zones
for .tz i.e. co,or,go,mil,ne,sc.
Now the problem is if we add credit we must specify the
zone we are adding credit.So if we register domain and the
credit in say co is finished while another sld say go has
credit the domain registration will fail since no enough
credit in the respective zone.
Now I am thinking of customizing such that if a registrar
has credit in the other sld's the credit can be used to
register domain in another sld.
Please advice if it's possible.And if its possible let
me know how can I start to do that.Which modules etc
will I have to look at to get the Insight of what happens
when the domain is being registered.

tried to create a domain but i get an error saying the domain name isn;t
applicable after keying in domain names such as homer.com and etc...

I have aregistrar in my fred db,
The registrar is working fine as he has credits and
if he registrer domains credits are deducted fine.
But I want to add a new registrar.
I have already created a new registrar who,assing zones
and the invoice_prefix has values that whre used in the
previous registrar.
Now if I add the credit to this new registrar It gives
me an error that duplicate entries in the invoice table.
I suspect its due to the field prefix of the invoice table.
What am I supposed to do?Because the Invoice table contains
the records created while adding credit for the 1st registrar?
Do I have to flush out the data in the table invoice so that I can enter
data for my new registrar??
If I flash and a registrar issues info_credit what will he see???

When i run the fred-client command "technical_test", i can check if the nsset is working technically.
But when the technical_test gives an error, is there any way to check, WHICH nameserver gives an error ?
For example if there are 2 nameservers in one nsset, maybe one is working fine, but the other has an error. With "technical_test" its not possible to see, WHICH ONE of the 2 nameservers is failing. Is that so ?

Here in .fo we want to use a few fields in our database table, which are not existing in the Fred Postgresql database table "contact".
At the other hand there are some fields in "contact", which we dont use, for example "vat", "street3" etc.
Because we want to make our system as much as possible within FRED (and as little as possible with database tables outside of Fred), i would like to use for example the fields "vat" and "street3" for other purposes (with other data).
Can you think of any problems, i might get later because of this, or should this be an ok solution ?
Are these fields hardcoded anywhere or for any purposes, for example in the Whois program ?

By the way, Fred installed seemlessly on debian 'squeeze' using

I have installed FRED on a PC witch have as OS DEBIAN 5.0
All servers are running (fred-adifd, fred-pifd, fred-pyfred, fred-rifd, omniname)
But when I try to create contact or other objects it send back this error : "Command failed"
Is it version problem of package or ?

I know it's not a best practice but an important percentage of our
domains use only one nameserver.
Is there a possibility of FRED not enforcing at least two nameservers?.
We are considering several other alternatives for implementing this best
practice. though.

Hi all,
1. using fred-admin, I created new fqdn and corresponding registrars for cz
sucessfully.
2. I've added using fred-client for umar.cz with the corresponding contact,
nsset and domain successfully.
3. Then I run
#genzone_client cz
to generate the zone for all in cz (including umar.cz)
4. But when I run whois -h 127.0.0.1 umar.cz it says status: Domain
is not generated into zone
Did I missed any steps? or wrongly type any commands?

How do i delete one Domain ONLY from DNS ?
I cannot find any command for this in fred-client. Is there a (python?) command for this ?
I need to do this, because when one Domain expires, we first want to delete it only from DNS, and the later delete the domain completely from the system.

Finally i decided, what i want to do. I only want to use these 2 commands, which "object_regular_procedure" is a shortcut for:
fred-admin --update_object_states
fred-admin --object_delete_candidates
I can see 2 ways to do this, and i want to ask you to help me choosing the correct way to do this:
1) to run "object_regular_procedure" without running the unwanted commands, but only the 2 that i want to run. Is that possible, and if yes, how ?
2) if i run the 2 commands individually, how should the order be ? (for example update_object_states should be runned 2 times ?, is that before and after the other command/s ?)

This procedure is imporant part of Fred processes. It automates lot of
things. According to fred-admin --help it's just shortcut for list of
other things:
--object_regular_procedure shortcut for 2x update_object_states,
notify_state changes,
poll_create_statechanges
, object_delete_candidates,
poll_create_low_credit,
notify_letters_create
--update_object_states - This command update state of objects - it
compares actual time, expiration dates on domains, last usage dates on
contact and nssets and mark those object with flags like (expired,
ouzone, deleteCandidate...). It's called twice to catch race condition -
if somebody should renew domain during this procedure. It's state is
reverted back in second run. Domains with 'outzone' state are not
generation into zone dile
--notify_state_changes - Go through objects and find states that should
be followed by client notification. For those object/state combinations
send email to object owner. For example registrants are this way
notified about approaching expiration, about getting outzone, about
deleting of object...etc
--poll_create_statechanges - Similar to previous but this way registrars
are informed using 'poll messages' mechanism. New message is created in
system and registrars can download this message using poll EPP command.
--object_delete_candidates - All objects marked by state deleteCandidate
are deleted. Domains get this state 45 days after expiration date.
Contact and NSSets get this state after six months of not using them.
--poll_create_low_credit - Special check for credit of registrars. If
credit of registrar fall under some configured limit. New poll message
is created for this registrar with information that credit is low.
--notify_letters_create - Few weeks before deleteing of domain we send
regular paper letter to registrant with information that his domain is
really going to be deleted. This procedure generates PDF document with
those letters. Our staff download this PDF file using web administration
interface, print it on printer, put it into envelopes and send it.
We call this procedure each day at 2pm from cron script.

Hi,
We would like to run an ENUM registry for several companies to use to
provide lookups for their customers. The registry would store the
service provider gateway addresses.
I would like to ask a couple of questions.
We have been introduced to the Austrian ENUM server software, but it
appears to be very hard to install and does not support ubuntu server.
Does FRED do the same things as the Austrian software?
We found during a test that Cisco devices do not support the latest ENUM
RFC and we had to use an ENUM proxy to translate back to the old RFC.
Does FRED overcome this issue with Cisco gateway ENUM lookups?
We want to use a private domain for the registrations: domain.com
Does Fred permit the use of a private domain tree or must we use
e164.arpa?

We would like to separate files for different subzones. Two possible
strategies:
1. Some option from genzone_client using an only zone.
2. Defining zones in FRED .cr, .ac.cr, .co.cr and the like (notice the
second-level zone).
Any thoughts?.
