For where a ccTLD opts to offer second/third level mixed space such as ac.cr, co.cr examples that Mario mentioned, I suggest, where the NIC is offering the sub-spaces like this, to review, verify and update their listings in the Public Suffix List https://github.io/publicsuffix/list to ensure that browsers are aware, cookies get separated logically, and SSL issuance is partitioned in the manner that the NIC intends the spaces to be used.
